Thoughts on the Big Speech?

Obama went in front of a joint session of Congress tonight to sell his vision on Health Care reform. There's a lot to be determined in the political process before anything actually comes up for a vote. How did you feel about it? Is there anything you'd like to discuss?

Well kinda yeah. It was very interesting that Obama went with the figure of 30 million uninsured - down from the 47 million that he used to claim. But the whole thing is so speculative its hard to pin down. Ostensibly that "drop" was to signify that the reform proposals were going to exclude illegals. Rush was pointing out today that Republicans have offered a few amendments to the various proposals that would have explicitly excluded illegals but they've been blocked in committee.
That's probably what prompted Wilson's outburst. Its a matter of Obama saying that they're not specifically saying that illegals will be covered and Wilson feeling that there's not anything that directly prevents them from gaining access. When there's no iron clad provisions preventing people from using a service then they most certainly will start to use it. Primarily if social security documents are required then they can be easily forged. Or if an illegal gives birth to a child in the US then the parents would become a part of the system too.
