Video Game Losers Update
« Thread started on: Aug 20th, 2012, 07:04am » |
|
Just a reminder to everyone looking for today's episode of The Video Game Losers show: The show is currently on hiatus as it is being retooled. As DiRT said in the News Desk update this weekend, the show is shifting to more of a reviews show instead of a show about news and releases. While we hammer out the final details, feel free to reply to this thread and list some retro games you'd like to see reviewed on a future show!

Hey Guys,
Long time listener/watcher here. I hope everything is going well with the changes/moving.
When I was growing up, games were not readily available, so we had to make do with whatever the video rental store had or whatever we could borrow.
A game that I wound up playing more than most was Maniac Mansion for the NES. It was the first point and click game that I had played and I got really into trying to figure out what to do, I never had any instructions or the box, just the game itself. Anyway, I think it would be a great candidate for a Retro review in your upcoming VGLosers reformat.
Thanks, and keep up the great work!

Couple of questions;
What's the current cutoff year for 'retro games'?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Video_game_console
Obviously stuff from before the '83 crash, the NES era, & the Genesis / SNES slugfest, are 'retro' and current consoles (XB360/PS3/Wii) are not, but what about the N64, Gamecube, Saturn, Dreamcast, Xbox 1, or the first two Playstations, amongst others?
Also, what working consoles do you guys have on hand?
There would not be much of a point in suggesting a game for say, the Atari Jaguar CD, if you didn't have a Jag CD to review the game with.

I would say we want to stay in the 32 bit and prior era, but it's not a hard and fast rule. We might take a look at a PS2 or Xbox title. We might take a look at anything.
And just name a game. If we can't get to a Jaguar CD game right away, then we'll work on getting to it in the future.

I tried to limit my suggestions to what is, as of this post, in the PCN store's inventory, though I don't expect you to cover every (or even most) of what I list. I'm fairly certain you guys haven't covered any of these previously on the VGL, though feel free to correct me it I'm mistaken.
Also, feel free to use this as the backup "nothing else better to cover" list if you like.
- Genesis Arcus Odyssey B.O.B. Crue Ball Desert Strike Eternal Champions F-15 Strike Eagle II Great Circus Mystery Starring Mickey & Minnie Hard Drivin' John Madden Football '92 King of the Monsters 2 Lotus Turbo Challenge Mortal Kombat NBA Jam or NBA Jam: Tournament Edition (Title aside, how much of a difference is there between the two games?) Olympic Gold Pit-Fighter Revolution X Sub Terrania Taz in Escape from Mars VR Troopers WWF Royal Rumble X-Men Zero Tolerance
- NES 3-D Worldrunner Alpha Mission Bad Dudes Captain Planet and the Planeteers. Dudes with Attitude Elevator Action F-15 City War Gotcha! Home Alone 2: Lost in New York Iron Tank Jack Nicklaus' Greatest 18 Holes of Major Championship Golf Knight Rider Laser Invasion Mendel Palace Ninja Kid Popeye Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves Skate or Die Tag Team Wrestling Urban Champion Volleyball Wrath of the Black Manta Xenophobe

Boxing Harley's Humongous Adventure Jurassic Park 2: The Chaos Continues Ka-Blooey MechWarrior NBA All-Star Challenge Operation Logic Bomb Porky Pig's Haunted Holiday Rocketeer Scooby-Doo Mystery Tecmo Super Bowl Vegas Stakes Warlock XVII Olympic Games Lillehammer 1994 Yoshi's Safari Zoop
